Braces make beautiful smiles! If you’ve chosen braces with Zombek Orthodontics, then congratulations! You’re on your way to the smile of your dreams! If you’re still considering braces, we totally understand. It’s a big decision and commitment, and there are several factors to consider. One factor is the look of your braces. Do you want the traditional braces, or are you looking for cosmetic braces? What are cosmetic braces, anyway?
Zombek Orthodontics is here to help you learn about the different kinds of braces and what is right for you. Do you want that braces look, or are you looking for something nearly invisible? Let’s explore your options.
What are cosmetic braces, and why do people prefer them? Cosmetic braces can be a broad term that refers to the general aesthetic side of braces and orthodontic treatment. Ceramic braces, lingual braces, and even clear aligners are typical components of a conversation about cosmetic braces. Some people also consider fashion braces or fake braces to be cosmetic braces.
There are several things that be classified as cosmetic braces. We have patients who ask us about the different types and want to know, “can cosmetic braces fix my teeth?” That all depends on the type of cosmetic braces you use.
Are braces considered cosmetic? Some can be. Cosmetic braces can include clear braces. These braces are usually created with a ceramic material designed to match the natural color of teeth more closely. Otherwise, clear braces are nearly identical to metal ones. They still include a metal archwire, in most cases, that gently pressures the teeth to move into their proper positions.
Patients consider these braces to be cosmetic braces because, as with Invisalign, they take the look of the braces into consideration. Cosmetic braces are harder to see than metal ones.
Lingual braces can also be considered cosmetic because they’re nearly invisible. That’s because they are placed on the back sides of the teeth rather than across the front. Lingual braces use pressure to pull the teeth into place. They're nearly hidden from view because they’re on the backside.
Lingual braces have a few disadvantages, however. It can be harder to clean teeth properly with lingual braces. They also tend to be much more costly than traditional braces or even Invisalign. They also can’t be used in every orthodontic case. That’s why we prefer self-ligating braces and Invisalign for treatment.
Some of the most popular cosmetic braces aren’t really braces, but they do the same work. Clear aligners offer the same movement power as braces but totally different looks. Zombek Orthodontics is a Platinum Provider of Invisalign, one of the most popular clear aligner systems.
Invisalign uses a special clear material to apply gentle pressure to your teeth and move them to their correct positions. They do this without wires or brackets. The clear material is custom-molded to your teeth, making Invisalign virtually invisible. Bottom line, Invisalign can fix teeth without looking like there is anything fixing your teeth.
There is another type of braces making the rounds on TikTok and other social media platforms. That’s “fashion braces,” which are actually fake braces. Some are simply mouthguard-like devices that slip over your teeth and give them the look of braces as a gag. But others have brackets attached to a wire that slips over the teeth. Some believe they work just like braces.
Fake braces for teeth aren’t anything like real braces, and they can do more harm than good. Real braces require detailed planning to put the proper pressure on each tooth to move them into their proper position. They also need a certain amount of pressure. Anything over that can cause the teeth to become too loose and lead to tooth loss. Bottom line, if you need braces, see a professional. Do-it-yourself braces can cause much more harm than good.
Cosmetic Dentistry sounds like something that includes cosmetic braces. It’s actually different, but cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics go hand-in-hand. Cosmetic dentistry can include everything from veneers and dental implants to teeth whitening and teeth caps. These services are usually done by a dentist. Sometimes, however, they can’t be done well without the help of orthodontic treatment.
A good example of this would be veneers. These are thin acrylic or ceramic shells that are placed on the front surface of a tooth to give it a better appearance. People get veneers to improve the look of a tooth that’s chipped, cracked, discolored or otherwise damaged. But if their teeth are crooked, it’s difficult to apply veneers.
That’s where orthodontics comes in. The dentist may recommend treatment with Invisalign or braces to straighten the teeth enough to apply veneers. Once the teeth are straight, it’s easy for the dentist to finish the job with the veneers.
Patients who want their smile to look great often use both cosmetic dentistry and orthodontics to achieve that goal. Treatment with braces or Invisalign can close gaps between teeth, line them up properly, and spread out crowded teeth. Let’s face it: Your teeth look better when they’re straight, and it gives you more confidence. That’s why we do what we do.
Braces or clear aligners may be how to get perfect teeth, but how long does the process take? The answer is, “it depends.” Several factors determine the length of time it will take, from the number of dental issues to the severity of each one. It also depends on the patient. There are certain things you must do to keep your treatment on track. In general, treatment with Invisalign can be anywhere from 6-15 months. Treatment with regular braces averages 12-24 months. However, we use LightForce braces at Zombek Orthodontics, which shortens treatment times.
One patient finished braces treatment in as little as 9 months with only a few office visits, thanks in part to LightForce braces. LightForce braces are custom-made for you to provide the absolute best treatment in the shortest amount of time.
Unlike regular braces, which use the same brackets for everyone, LightForce brackets are custom, 3D printed to fit each of your teeth perfectly and in just the right spot. That way, the pressure is applied exactly where it needs to be to move the tooth quickly and more comfortably than traditional braces. This means LightForce braces work faster. Patients can complete treatment from 9-18 months!
Sometimes, the conflict with the orthodontist isn’t about treatment — it’s about scheduling. If you have a busy schedule, it will be hard to fit in an orthodontist appointment. If your orthodontist has a huge clientele, scheduling is even more difficult. Try working with your orthodontist to find a solution. Changing orthodontists may be the only answer. You must attend appointments and get regular checkups, so you need an orthodontist who can accommodate your schedule.
We believe everyone deserves to have the smile they’ve always wanted. We also believe that treatment with braces or Invisalign is the best way to get you there. Your oral health is our top priority, but we also care about your self-esteem. We want your teeth to look great, and we want you to feel confident getting there. So if you’re looking for cosmetic braces in the Hollywood or Weston, FL, areas, schedule an appointment with Zombek Orthodontics. Let us show you how amazing your smile can look!
A straight smile may look great, but it has a lot more health benefits than you might think. Did you know you can eat better, sleep better, and even speak better with straight teeth? Straight teeth have more physical health benefits than most people think, but they also provide self-confidence and self-esteem that can benefit your mental and emotional health as well. The
You got your braces, and you’re on your way to the smile you’ve always wanted. Then…you have to move. What do you do? Can you change orthodontists when you already have braces? Can you switch dentists with braces? Do you have to commute cross-country just to get your dream smile? Will you have your braces on for the rest of your life if you can’t? Don’t worry — you can definitely switch orthodontists! In our profession, we understand that patients may have to move during treatment. They may also not see eye-to-eye with their doctor, or perhaps they just have too many scheduling conflicts to make it work. Whatever the reason, it is possible to transfer an orthodontic patient during treatment.
At Zombek Orthodontics, we welcome all patients, whether they’re new or changing orthodontists during braces, Lightforce braces, or Invisalign treatment. We will work with your previous orthodontist to get the information we need, and we’ll build a new plan that works best for you.
Change isn’t always easy, but as doctors, we are here to make changes as easy as possible. You need to take certain steps for a smooth transfer from one orthodontist's office to another. The first step is the most important — choosing your new orthodontist. If you’re moving to south Florida or are already in the Hollywood, FL, or Weston, FL, area, we’d love for you to choose us!
Once the choice is made, you’ll want to talk to your current doctor, if you feel comfortable. If you’re moving away from the area, they might be able to assist you in finding a new orthodontist. Most orthodontists would be happy to do anything for you, including arranging a transfer.
How do you choose your new orthodontist? There are several options available to you. If you know people in your target area, you can start with recommendations from them. That will at least give you an idea of where to begin. Research the office in your target area using resources such as the Better Business Bureau, the local Chamber of Commerce, Google reviews, Facebook groups, or even your dentist if you’re staying in the area. If you’re not staying in the area, can you switch dentists with braces, or can you switch dentists during Invisalign? Of course! You can find a dentist in a similar fashion to finding your new orthodontist.
The American Academy of Orthodontists (AAO) offers patients an orthodontic transfer form that makes it easier to move from one orthodontist to another during treatment. The form will keep track of the status of your current treatment. It will also provide dental records, a list of orthodontic appliances you may have, your financial information and arrangement, and other pertinent information. You can fill out the form online with a PDF filler.
Once you’ve chosen the orthodontist you’d like, and perhaps a few backups, you’ll want to schedule a consultation to check out your potential new doctor. If you’re moving to the Hollywood or Weston, FL, areas, you can start with Zombek Orthodontics by initiating a virtual consult from your desktop, laptop, or even your mobile phone! You’ll want to let the new office know you’re in the middle of treatment and want to transfer to their office. That way, they’ll know to start working on your transfer right away. As orthodontists, we know that your goal is to get your dream smile in as little time as possible. We don’t want there to be any unnecessary delays in your transfer process, so the sooner we know about it, the better.
The consultation at the new office is essential, but it can also be a little intimidating. Will this team meet my needs thoroughly? Will they be able to offer the same treatment? Can another dentist remove my braces? Is it a good idea to be moving in the middle of Invisalign treatment?
Your new orthodontist should be able to answer these questions and more. Expect the initial consultation to be a thorough one. Be prepared to talk a little about why you’re changing orthodontists during braces or Invisalign. If the reason for the transfer isn’t about a move, don’t be afraid to explain your issues or grievances so that your new orthodontist can be aware of how to best care for you.
Your new orthodontist will likely lay out a plan during your initial consultation to change out your braces or Invisalign. You should be prepared that they might have to remove your current braces and replace them. They might do that because their braces or treatment plan may differ from what you have currently. It’s much easier to start from scratch than to adapt someone else’s hardware to your new treatment plan.
Moving may be a common reason to change orthodontists during braces, but it’s not the only reason. Several other factors could be involved in your decision.
Sometimes, a patient doesn’t agree with the treatment plan laid out by an orthodontist. While the orthodontist is the professional, sometimes a treatment plan doesn’t feel right. The best thing is to talk to your orthodontist and voice your concerns early so that they can be addressed. It’s one of the many reasons why at Zombek Orthodontics, we offer a consultation. However, if the orthodontist doesn’t feel that the patient’s idea for treatment is in their best interest, they may refuse to treat. In this case, it’s better to find a new orthodontist. In the end, you should be happy with your decision and your treatment.
Every person has different needs and that translates to needs from their orthodontist and orthodontic office; from anxiety about a dentist or orthodontist to accommodations related to physical disabilities. Your doctor should understand and be willing to listen and address any issues you have. As an orthodontist in South Florida, Dr. Zombek understands that some people have anxiety about visiting a dentist or orthodontist. He and his team work hard to ease patients' concerns and allow them to have as comfortable a visit as possible. But if your orthodontist isn’t as sympathetic or accommodating, then it might be time to move on.
For some patients, a transfer comes after they lose their current orthodontist. The orthodontist may retire and close his business or decide to sell the business to another orthodontist. You may decide to give the new orthodontist a try or decide it’s time to transfer to another orthodontist. Usually, the departing orthodontist will let you know via letter or email when they are leaving and whether the practice will close or will continue on. They should give you enough time to find another orthodontist and begin a transfer if that’s what you prefer to do.
Changing orthodontists during braces can take time, and figuring out the finances may take a good chunk of that time. If you paid in full at the start, your current orthodontist would need to figure out how much they need to refund you. If you’re on a payment plan, the doctor will need to figure out what you will owe to the end date of your treatment, if anything. Payment plans can’t be transferred between orthodontists so you’ll need to set up a new payment plan with your new orthodontist.
Be sure the new orthodontist offers a payment plan similar to what you have. Some orthodontists offer extended payment plans, while others don’t. Some accept dental insurance and FSA/HSA accounts, while others stick with in-house financing. Make sure your financial options are a part of your initial conversation with the potential new orthodontist and find the one who will work best for you. If you used your insurance benefit with your current orthodontist, you might not have benefits left to cover fees for your new orthodontist. Check with your dental insurance to see where you stand on benefits for the year.
You will have new treatment fees once you transfer. Your new orthodontist will have a new financial plan and contract for you. There may also be fees for obtaining your orthodontic records from your current orthodontist and fees to remove your braces from your previous orthodontist. State or local requirements differ so be sure to get details on financing from all possible choices for your new orthodontist.
Changing orthodontists during braces or changing orthodontists during Invisalign treatment can be a complicated process. We want to make it easier. Keep the above steps in mind to facilitate a smooth transition. If you’re in southern Florida or moving to the Hollywood, FL, or Weston, FL, areas, consider Zombek Orthodontics as your new orthodontist. We can aid you in your transition, and we offer treatment with LightForce braces and Invisalign. In fact, Zombek Orthodontics is a Platinum Invisalign Provider! We also provide zero-interest, in-house financing, extended payment plans, and low down payments.
Did you know that 50-60% of kids under the age of 5 have a gap between their front teeth? In most cases, a gap in teeth will close on its own by the age of 8 or 9. For parents and patients whose gap teeth do not close naturally, you may be wondering what the cause is of this gap. Can it be fixed? Does it need to be fixed? At Zombek Orthodontics, we’re here to tell you that it is not medically necessary to correct gap teeth with braces in many cases. Many celebrities with gap teeth choose not to change their smiles – and regular people too! So if you love your beautiful gap teeth and there are no other problems present, great! As an orthodontist, we can help you determine whether or not the gap between your front teeth is cause for concern and, if so, what kind of treatment will be most helpful.
The technical term for a tooth gap is “diastema.” While it can happen anywhere in the mouth, most people think of the gap between the upper two front teeth when they use the phrase “gap teeth.” Gap teeth can result from several different causes. Some of the most common are:
While it’s not always necessary to “fix” gapped teeth, many patients do ask us how to close a gap in teeth. At Zombek Orthodontics, we offer several treatment options to close a gap between front teeth.
At Zombek Orthodontics, we provide self-ligating braces that don’t use elastics, so they’re more comfortable than traditional metal braces. We also recommend LightForce braces (a brand of clear braces) to our patients. LightForce braces are custom-designed based on the unique shape of your tooth, jawline, and facial structure, which creates the perfect fit throughout treatment. Traditional braces typically take 12-24 months, but LightForce braces are designed to provide maximum efficiency. So your treatment may take even less time.
Invisalign clear aligners are another great way to close a gap in your teeth. Invisalign is a popular choice for gapped teeth and other dental issues, such as overbite, crossbite, or underbite. Invisalign treatment can happen in as little as six months, but an average case takes 9-15 months.
Are you wondering if you’re a good candidate for Invisalign? We can help you find out.
Other treatments are available for gap teeth, including veneers. Veneers are shells of material that fit over the front of your teeth to provide a more perfect smile. Because they tend to be slightly larger than your teeth, they can fix small gaps in teeth. But veneers aren’t for everyone, and they do have to be replaced after several years of use.
Dental bonding is sometimes used to fix gapped teeth and get a quick result compared to other methods. With dental bonding, your dentist applies a resin to your teeth to fill the gap and uses a special light to harden the resin. The downside of dental bonding is that it isn’t as stain-resistant as your natural teeth or crowns, so you must be careful what you eat and drink.
Dental implants might be a good solution if your gap teeth are the result of missing teeth. A dental implant can replace a missing tooth and keep your front teeth from getting a gap.
In a few cases, particularly those with an enlarged frenulum, dental surgery may be necessary to remove a gap between front teeth and keep the gap from returning. Patients may sometimes need a frenectomy to remove the excess frenulum.
While there are many potential causes for a gap between your teeth, these gaps (like other tooth alignment issues) are genetic in some cases. Gaps can certainly be hereditary. If both parents had a gap between their front teeth, there is a strong chance the child will have one too.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder — and cultural norms can have a lot to do with what we see as beautiful. In some cultures, gapped teeth are actually preferred and seen as a sign of beauty. While it’s not necessarily the traditional standard in the United States, there are many celebrities who have embraced the gap between their teeth. If no other dental issues are present, gapped teeth may not need treatment. Absent other issues, it’s purely a cosmetic choice.
If you live in the Weston, FL, or Hollywood, FL area, contact Zombek Orthodontics for a consultation. We will help you determine whether gapped teeth are something that “needs” to be treated in your case and talk through which options would work best for you or your child.
At Zombek Orthodontics, we never want to rush you into making a decision about your orthodontic care. Consultations for children are absolutely free and no obligation to start on the same day. However, many patients or parents are ready to get started as soon as they see what we can do for them. That's why we dedicate enough time with each consultation to start their braces journey on the very same day.
Thanks to advances in technology, Dr. Zombek can design a personalized treatment plan for you or your child in just a few hours! He also leaves plenty of time for you to ask questions. Dr. Zombek is adamant that the more his patients know about their treatment, the easier it is for them to participate and succeed.
In many offices, it takes several weeks and a series of orthodontic appointments to start traditional braces. The first step is a consultation during which your orthodontist examines your teeth and offers treatment suggestions. This is also when you may talk about any questions or worries you have. Next, you schedule a visit with your dentist. You should have a professional cleaning and examination before getting braces. If you have gum disease or a cavity, your dentist may recommend that you fix it now rather than proceeding with orthodontic treatment. If everything goes according to plan, your dentist will clear you of oral health concerns and send you back to your orthodontist for your braces application. This procedure generally takes several hours and includes your orthodontist bonding your brackets to your teeth and setting your archwires.
At Zombek Orthodontics, all our braces go on digitally. Each individual bracket is custom-built by LightForce using some of the world’s most sophisticated 3D Printing technology. It starts with a detailed, 3D scan of your teeth that shows not only the location of each tooth but also the surface contours. We’re talking SERIOUS detail!
The way LightForce braces go on your teeth is totally different from traditional metal braces. LightForce uses a much cooler method — one that will keep you in the chair for a lot less time. With traditional braces, Dr. Zombek has to place each bracket one at a time and maneuver it into its proper spot. It’s a time-consuming process that can take a couple of hours.
It’s different with LifeForce. The brackets come in six trays that are also custom-printed to fit your teeth precisely. Each tray places several brackets at the same time and does so with incredible precision. The result is a lot less time in the chair getting your braces put on. In fact, it may take only an hour or less to get you into braces and out of the orthodontist’s chair! That means you can get your braces on quickly and back to living your life! This saves you time, reduces delays in treatment, and allows you to focus on work and school.
Nope! The ability to produce custom-fit clear aligners using 3D printing has revolutionized orthodontics. Now, that same technology is changing everything you thought you knew about braces! LightForce braces provide a whole new level of efficiency, individualization, and convenience. At Zombek Orthodontics, we are dedicated to maximizing the efficiency of treatment and minimizing time-consuming adjustments. It's why we love LightForce braces!
Like clear aligners, LightForce technology allows Dr. Zombek to personalize an orthodontic treatment plan for each patient with 3D scanning and printing. Patients adore LightForce because of the quicker treatments, fewer visits, and more comfortable and efficient treatment!
We don't want to pressure you into making a decision about braces. But for busy parents and students, a same-day braces start is a quick and easy orthodontic treatment option.
