October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and Zombek Orthodontics is teaming up with an organization dedicated to helping survivors of this terrible disease. BRCAStrong’s mission is to alleviate the emotional and financial burdens of women facing breast or ovarian cancer, regardless of their genetic predisposition. Zombek Orthodontics is proud to be a sponsor of BRCAStrong, and we have several ways that you can help us support them this month through services and donations.
Women who survive breast cancer or undergo a preventative mastectomy often face a long and challenging road of reconstruction and recovery, which is why BRCAStrong is here to help.
In 2015, Tracy Milgram-Posner and her daughter Gabby founded BRCAStrong after Tracy’s own battle against the BRCA2 gene mutation. After two lumpectomies in her teens, she discovered she had the mutation in 2004 at age 21.
In 2015, Tracy was told she had an 85% chance of developing breast cancer and a 30% chance of developing ovarian cancer. She had a total hysterectomy and a double mastectomy. She founded BRCAStrong to help other women dealing with their own BRCA genetic mutations so they wouldn’t have to fight alone as she did.
“After finding out I was BRCA2 positive in 2004 and seeing that there wasn’t much support for women like myself, I decided to be that voice,” Tracy said.
BRCAStrong provides mastectomy recovery care packages for women with items they’ll need after surgery — robes with drain belts, two mastectomy pillows, and a post-mastectomy bra. They also provide advocacy, direct assistance, special events, and empowerment for survivors. BRCAStrong also provides informative resources and guides for women about to undergo or who have undergone mastectomies.
Their goal is to provide caring and support for women through a difficult process and to empower them with the strength to continue to survive.
“This group has helped support women with day-to-day battles they may face,” Tracy said. “The stories you hear are incredible, whether good or bad, and these ladies are amazing.”
Zombek Orthodontics is proud to sponsor this organization and its empowering work with several special events throughout October.
To start, we will donate a mastectomy recovery care package for the first 25 new patients who start treatment through October. Secondly, we are donating all fees to replace lost retainers to BRCAStrong throughout October. So if you need to replace your retainer, now is a great time to do it. You’ll keep your teeth straight AND help a fantastic cause!
Finally, we are hosting a Charity Yoga Event at Hollywood Oaks Park on October 21. All proceeds from the event will be donated to help provide care packages to women in our community! Last year, BRCAStrong distributed 150 of these kits. Our goal is to help them deliver another 40 kits by the end of the month!
According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetimes. More than 325,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year, and more than 49,000 will die.
Breast cancer is the second-most common type of cancer — behind only skin cancer — in women. It is also the second deadliest cancer for women, second only to lung cancer. Breast cancer incidents are trending up about 0.5% each year. Breast cancer death rates have been steady for women under 50, but those older have decreased since 2007.
It’s believed early detection using more modern methods, such as 3D ultrasound and high-resolution digital mammography, has led to better treatment chances and a declining rate of death of about 1% per year.
Testing for the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation has also assisted in increasing a woman’s chance of survival against breast cancer. Because women with these gene mutations have a much higher chance of developing breast cancer (4-5 times higher, in some cases) or ovarian cancer (10-40x higher), some opt to have a partial or full mastectomy during breast cancer treatment or even before breast cancer can develop.
How can you help? If you’re in the Hollywood, FL area, join us on October 21 for a Charity Yoga Class! If you’ve been thinking about braces or Invisalign, you can try a virtual consult to get started with us and add one more mastectomy care package to BRCAStrong!
Please join us in our efforts to support BRCAStrong during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October. Together, let’s stand together to support these remarkable survivors.
We really do love our patients here at Zombek Orthodontics. Our patients are extensions of our family, and we want to ensure they always feel that way. We treat our patients the way we would want to be treated and how we would want our children to be treated.
Our philosophy is simple: You and your child are a part of our family. Your child is the center of the universe, and we want to take the time to understand their needs. We don't just see them as patients; we see them as a person we want to make smile.
I'm a caregiver at heart, and at Zombek Orthodontics, you'll find a family of caregivers. Our team is made up of specialists who want you to feel seen, known, and celebrated.
A lot of what we do for our patients is behind the scenes. We prepare the details of your child's treatment, so when you come in to speak to us, we're ready to give you all the facts and answer all your questions.
Your time is precious. We believe that when we take the time to explain what is happening in your child's mouth, you'll be more invested in their treatment.
We believe that if you place emphasis on time and put the patient first, the rest will fall into place. Our patient-first approach is one of the reasons why our patients love coming here.
When you take the time to get to know each patient, you build a relationship that will last beyond treatment. Our goal is to cultivate a rapport that contributes to the fun, relaxed atmosphere.
We celebrate our patients' milestones — birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, school victories; you name it. It's all part of getting to know our patients and making them a part of the family. At Zombek Orthodontics, we believe all the technical expertise and technology in the world is worthless if you do not feel seen, heard, and celebrated.
We've created a practice whose top priority is your family, and where your child's smile is celebrated. I couldn't be more proud!
Zombek Orthodontics has two offices, one in Weston, FL, the other in Hollywood, FL, and we couldn't be in better, more beautiful places. Let's face it, there is nothing better than the beauty and community of South Florida!
I am proud to be part of these amazing communities, and I believe in giving back to them as often as possible. We support several local organizations and events throughout the year, and our partnerships in education are very important to us. Our communities provide vast support for us, and we are so grateful for it. That's why giving back to the community is so important to me and to Zombek Orthodontics.
My mother was a social worker, and my father was an urban planner. Both believed strongly in community, and they instilled that belief in me.
When I started this practice, I knew I wanted to take a community approach, and I’ve assembled a team that thinks the same way.
We know we can't run this business without being an integral part of the community, which is why we contribute to the community in a variety of ways.
Zombek Orthodontics takes pride in supporting our communities. We support several charities and events in the Weston and Hollywood, FL, areas.
Some of the events and charities we support include:
I am also a strong believer in education and providing children with the best education possible. To this end, Zombek Orthodontics is a proud member of Partners in Education. We support several schools in our communities through this partnership. I also serve as President of the Board at Brauser Maimonides Academy of Fort Lauderdale, FL.
I love being out in the community and running into our patients around town. They share a bit about their lives, and I get a chance to see the smiles I helped create. It makes me so proud.
Sometimes, a former patient will tell me they've entered dentistry or orthodontics because of their experience in our office. Those are the stories that really make me smile.
I have cultivated a team here at Zombek Orthodontics that feels like family. I want your family to feel that way, too, every time you walk into one of our offices. Our community is the foundation on which Zombek Orthodontic stands, and we will always work hard to support you, whether it's at a community event, in a local school, or in our examination room.
Orthodontic treatment is an important investment in your dental health. At Zombek Orthodontics, we also recognize that a healthy and beautiful smile boosts self-confidence and self-worth.
We work hard to make you happy with your investment, both now and in the future. That's why we offer several financing options with no pressure to choose. We're excited to guide you through the process, and we want you to be excited, too!
Dr. Steven Zombek is no stranger to hard work. In addition to building his own business, his mother was a social worker, and his father was an urban planner.
"I was raised by parents who worked hard for everything we had," said Dr. Zombek. "I know the value of a dollar, and I know orthodontic work requires real financial investment in your smile or the smile of your child."
We've built many relationships over the years, several with entire families, and the only way to do that is to build trust. That's why we present you with all costs upfront, with no hidden fees or charges.
We will work with you to find the best financial solution for your investment. We offer several financing options for your investment, including:
We work with every patient to find the best financing option, and we ensure you go into treatment with your eyes wide open. We start with a consultation and create a detailed plan that outlines all your costs.
"I really recognize that orthodontics is a major financial investment for you and your children, and we really value that here at Zombek Orthodontics," said Dr. Zombek. "We want to find something that works for everybody."
"This is an incredibly low-pressure environment," he added. "We just want you to have all the knowledge you need to make a decision, and if you're not ready at that point to begin your orthodontic journey, we're here for you whenever that time is right for you."
